remain calm: Poem by J.J. Campbell

remain calm
by J.J. Campbell
watching the hurricane
strike jamaica
somewhere i hear bob
marley telling everyone
to remain calm
they don’t make drugs
like that anymore
still laughing at the therapist
back here in comfort
he seemed a little too happy
to see the strikingly beautiful
woman waiting to see him in
the waiting room
of course, i have a dirty
mind
so the mundane always
tends to end up as some
porn i watched in my 20s
godspeed to the island
paradise is never far away
J.J. Campbell (1976–?) is old enough to know better. He's been widely published over the years, most recently at Synchronized Chaos, The Beatnik Cowboy, Mad Swirl, Disturb the Universe Magazine and The Rye Whiskey Review. You can find him most days in Ohio taking care of his disabled mother. He tries his best to maintain his mildly entertaining blog, evil delights. (https://evildelights.blogspot.com)
Bernice Holtzman’s paintings and collages have appeared in shows at various venues in Manhattan, including the Back Fence in Greenwich Village, the Producer’s Club, the Black Door Gallery on W. 26th St., and one other place she can’t remember, but it was in a basement, and she was well received. She is the Assistant Art Director for Yellow Mama.
