Hi all!
Happy Summer—almost. What a year this has been, weather-wise. It felt like winter would never end. Then that fake spring that’s still teasing us. Hopefully soon we’ll have consistently—dare I say it?—warm temps.
At Yellow Mama, the heat’s always on. Issue #116 has plenty of sizzlers.
First, and hottest, is Sophia Wiseman-Rose’s “Zebra.” Inspired by my “Groupie,” this time rock god Jimmy leaks his side of the story. In Ryan Hight’s story, it’s “All Good on the Homefront” till shots are fired at a neighborhood yard sale. Jesse Binger’s “Starfish” is an escort with the worst kind of luck. In G Garnet’s tale, “The Collector” teams up with the gorgeous “collect-ee.” And “The Knight” in Devin O’Leary’s story wears no shiny armor.
Among the flash and micro gems are Jon Park’s “Where Do You Get Your Ideas From?,” about a “budding authors” event; Kenneth James Crist’s “’Scuse Me, This Is My Stop,” with subway vigilante justice at its best; Jeffrey Greene’s hilarious “The Grill Thief,” with a naked, scripture-spouting hero; and J.R. Lindermuth’s “The Choice,” in which one bestie is stuck making a difficult decision about the other.
Our poetry lineup features powerful works by Bradford Middleton, James Croal Jackson, Damon Hubbs, Luis Cuauhtémoc Berriozábal, and others.
Full-length and flash fiction stories (and some poems) are individually illustrated by our gifted artists: Bernice Holtzman, Jack Garrett, Kevin Duncan, Hillary Lyon, J. Elliott, Sophia Wiseman-Rose, Luis Cuauhtémoc Berriozábal, Steve Cartwright, Michael D. Davis, Darren Blanch, KJ Hannah Greenberg, Luke Lester, Zachary Wilhide, and John C. Mannone.
